Hans Hilfiker
Hans Hilfiker (1901–1993) was a Swiss engineer and designer. Commissioned by the Swiss Federal Railways, he designed the station clock in 1944, which would go on to become a national symbol for the country.[1] After the Second World War, station clocks based on his design - notable not only for their styling but also for the peculiar behaviour of the second hand - were introduced in many European countries such as Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.
In 2012, Apple adopted the design in its iOS 6 operating system without permission. The Swiss Federal Railways declared themselves proud of this worldwide application, but nevertheless took action to protect their patent. In November 2012, the newspaper Tagesanzeiger reported an agreement between the parties: Apple was said to have paid the Swiss around 20 million Swiss francs (€16.5 million).
