Carlo Alessi

Carlo Alessi was born in Granerolo (Verbania) in 1916, and studied technical design at the OMAR institute in Novara. At a young age he worked in the metalworking workshop set up by his father, Giovanni, in 1921. From the mid-1930s to the mid-1940s he designed numerous Alessi products, including the "Ottagonale", "Scalini", "Cilindrica" and "bombé" series.
In the 1950s he became director of the company, giving it a new international dimension and beginning to work with new external designers. He served as chairman of Alessi SpA until 2009, when he passed away.
