Zaha Hadid

Zaha Hadid (Baghdad 1950-2016) studied at the Architectural Association in London, where she graduated in 1977. She became a member of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, with Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis, then returned to the Architectural Association before going on to teach at various other universities in Europe and the United States.
She was a lecturer at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and a visiting professor at Yale University.

She began her professional career in 1979. In 1993 she was responsible for the Vitra fire station in Weil am Rhein, Germany, and a residential building for the iba in Berlin.

Her large completed projects include the LF one pavilion in Weil am Rhein (1993-1999), the Mind Zone in the Millennium Dome in London (1997-1999), a tram station and car park in Strasbourg (2001) and a ski jump in Innsbruck (2002). Other projects: the Contemporary Arts Centers in Rome and Cincinnati, a Science Centre in Wolfsburg, Germany, a ferry terminal in Salerno, Italy, a public plein and a multiplex cinema in Barcelona, the bmw works in Leipzig, the extension of the Ordrupgaard Museum in Copenhagen and a bridge in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Zaha Hadid was also known as a painter and designer: her work has been shown in various exhibitions in the United States, Japan, Great Britain and Germany.
