The DC09 is the automatic coffee machine designed for Alessi by architect David Chipperfield. Clean and rational, with an analogue interface that recalls classic Braun and Marantz equipment: six buttons on the front, two knobs and a small display on top. The body is made of coloured steel, the top and the drip grille of brushed stainless steel. This version is anthracite.
The built-in steel grinder grinds your beans fresh for every cup. One press of a button gives you an espresso, lungo or americano, and the steam wand froths milk for a cappuccino. Hot water for tea is there instantly too.

Maintenance
The machine rinses itself every time you switch it on. Open the magnetic side door to take out the brewing unit and rinse it, and simply pull out the front drawer with the grounds box and drip tray. The display tells you when the water tank is empty, the box is full or it is time to descale. A cleaning set with descaler, water hardness test strip and brushes is included.

Service
Alessi repairs the DC09 within 7 working days of arrival at its service centre. A QR code inside the machine lets you request service and arrange a pickup from your home straight away.
Designer
David Chipperfield
David Chipperfield (London, 1953) has offices in London, Berlin and Milan, as well as a representation in Shanghai. He designed the River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames with a green oak façade, concrete and glass. However, many of his buildings are located outside the United Kingdom, notably in Japan and Germany. In the German town of Marbach am Neckar, the Literaturmuseum of the Moderne designed by him was opened in January 2006 as part of the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach. In 2011 he won the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture with his design for the Neues Museum in Berlin. Chipperfield was the only British architect to reach the last selection round of the design competition for London's Tate Modern museum. He currently holds a guest professorship at the London College of the Arts and is working on the James Simon Galerie, an entrance building for the Museumsinsel in Berlin.

We never apply this without checking first: we'll always contact you beforehand and only ship once you've given your approval.
