Nutcracker made of beech wood with 7 layers of water-based lacquer to achieve the distinctive colours. Two colour combinations. The top is used to crack smaller nuts. The bottom is suitable for walnuts and the like. Unmistakable style by Ettore Sottsass with his cheerful colours and geometric shapes. Part of the reissue of Twergi items celebrating Alessi's centenary, launched during the large Sottsass retrospective exhibition at Centre Pompidou in 2021.

Ettore Sottsass

Ettore Sottsass was born in 1917 in Innsbruck as the son of an architect. He was an important architect and designer. He graduated as an architect from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 1939. He opened his own studio in Milan in 1947. For Olivetti he won his first Compasso D'Oro in 1959 for the computer mainframe Elea 9003. He would win three more, the last of which in 1989 for the cutlery "Nuova Milano", designed for Alessi. He gave the design world an enormous boost with the Memphis movement, in which numerous other grandmasters participated. He died in December 2007.
